The Western Province Rugby Academy, which forms part of the extended WPRI-model, is an entirely separate High Performance Institution, located in Cape Town, and serves to be more inclusive of any talent that might have slipped through the net of the initial recruitment campaign.

The Academy is based in Tokai, on the backdrop of Table Mountain's western edge and flanked by the beautiful Tokai Forest, a haven for outdoor training and team building. This new environment allows us to provide a more diverse player development offering for our enlarged Western Province Rugby junior talent base.

The WPRI in Stellenbosch can cater for a maximum of 45 players, for which the positions are filled at an early stage to ensure the best quality group as soon possible. The WPRA allows us to include an additional 50+ players in a new specialised environment and also creates the opportunity to capture more talented school leavers who would like to give themselves a chance in pursuing a career in rugby. The WPRA group forms part of the annual WP u19 trial group and players from both groups have an equal chance of playing themselves into the WP u19 squad.

The Academy also offers the opportunity to players up to u21-level to join the Province ranks. This adds to the depth of talent at u21-level, but also gives players, who have longer development needs, the chance to perform.

Applications are now open for the WPRA, so if you would like to be given a chance at representing the blue-and-white hoops, then visit our WPRA site at www.wprugbyacademy.com for further information and entry requirements.
